Taj is a TV period drama set in the 16th century that charts the story of Akbar and the war of succession amongst his sons —Salim, Murad, and Daniyal — capturing through it both the beauty and brutality of the Mughal Empire. Shot wholly in India using some of the most famous actors of their generation (Naseeruddin Shah, Dharmendra, Aditi Rao Hydari) Taj has six episodes per season and is scheduled to run over six seasons, dramatising the rise and fall of the various epochs of the Mughal Empire. Taj reveals the contrasts inherent in that era, pitting passionate love stories against cold treachery, peaceful philosophies against fundamental beliefs, innocent beginnings against desperate endings. It takes viewers on an historic journey showing them an unseen perspective of this illustrious dynasty which led to their rise as the greatest empire in medieval times and the quest for power within it, and which finally led to its downfall.
